I didn’t break the bicycle land speed record but it wasn’t a 2 year bike tour either. Riding my mondo cool Giant road bike (circa. 1972) I completed the 75 mile first day tour in just 6hrs (including breaks). I road for University of Penn Health Care along with Vicki, Dave, and Dan. We all finished in Ocean City along with 8000 other shaved leg cyclists. Our ride started at the heinous hour of 6:30 on Saturday morning and finished up around 2:00. Central New Jersey is more exciting than the Velodrome and Tour de France combined.

Weekend in the ‘ville would not be complete without a trip to the fair. Their must have been no car races in the whole state, so every redneck and their mother turned out to consume several tons of potato pancakes, pierogies, and halushki’s. You have not lived until you see the prize winning giant pumpkin and radioactive purple peppers grown by the 4-H’ers.

The queen mum and I went to the Library to see Michael Palin read and talk about his new diary(book) about the Python years. Unfortunately he did not read from the Book of Armaments of the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. He is a fantastic speaker and the auditorium was packed to hear him. Overflow had to be seated upstairs but we were lucky to be a few rows back from the stage. He mentioned that he had been good friends with George Harrison which I found interesting, besides them being English George really liked the skits by Python.
Michael talked about his favorite skit, The Cheese Shop, and a Wine skit that never made an episode. By the way the 44 cheeses are Perle de Champagne, Red Leicester, Tilsit, Caerphilly, Bel Paese, Red Windsor, Stilton, Emmental, Gruyère, Norwegian Jarlsberg, Liptauer, Lancashire, White Stilton, Danish Blue, Double Gloucester, Cheshire, Dorset Blue Vinney, Brie, Roquefort, Pont l’Evêque, Port Salut, Savoyard, Saint-Paulin, Carré de l’Est, Bresse-Bleu, Boursin, Camembert, Gouda, Edam, Caithness, Smoked Austrian, Japanese Sage Derby, Wensleydale, Gorgonzola, Parmesan, Mozzarella, Pipo Crème, Danish Fynbo (mispronounced ‘fimboe’), Czech sheep’s milk, Venezuelan Beaver Cheese, Cheddar, Ilchester, and Limburger.

Another summer concludes at the house. Everyone’s moved out except for her, which made it seem like our house, our pool, our automatic gate. Mr. and Mrs. aren’t around much and the daughter is moving in, which is ok but we no longer feel like we have the run of the place.
She is heading to India, Chennai to be exact, and is very excited and nervous from the terrorist activity in Frankfurt. We’ve had Indian food the past few weekends at some restaurants in town and have approved. The Tiffin Store was our favorite.
